What is Acting School really like?
I’ve been at Acting School for a week and a half now and I already feel like I have learnt so much. Our first day was pretty much an induction to the course and telling us what they expected from us throughout the two years.
The first thing I realised was that everything I knew about acting was wrong. I needed to become a blank canvas as Screen acting is completely different from drama/theatre, it’s much more natural. You need to be able to act without acting which is very hard to do otherwise it doesn’t come across as realistic therefore not believable.
Last week we worked on monologue/core acting, short film production, sight reading, cinema poetics, voice work and acting techniques. I never knew there was so much to screen acting, it’s crazy but I am enjoying it so much and I have never felt so privileged to be in the position that I am in. We have a few international students in our class which I love because everyone has a different story to how they got to the school and why they want to be actor.
Had my first proper shifts at my new job over the weekend, which I really enjoyed but at the same time I have never felt so tired and physically exhausted for a very long time. But sometimes in life you have to push yourself out your comfort zone in order to succeed.
I have 28 hours at work this weekend which is going to be tiring but need to keep reminding myself how beneficial the money will be as London is an expensive place and will help me out in the long run.
I will hopefully be meeting the Team North girls on the 26th as I will be travelling back up North that weekend to go to an Ed Sheeran concert on the Saturday and hoping I will have enough time to go to Preston as well, which I’m looking forward to as it feels like I haven’t seen the girls in forever!!
