Masks and Glitter and The Things Im Loving and The Things Im Hating.

This week has been a rather exciting but stressful week but has all proved well worth it in the end!

After finishing my university exams on Wednesday I had to rush straight back home to Cumbria from Edinburgh to finalise arrangements for the May Masquerade Ball; the fundraiser which I’ve been organising over the past few months for the fabulous charity Beauty with a Purpose.

The night was a brilliant success!

People travelled from far and wide – some even came all the way from places such as Edinburgh and Barnsley to enjoy the evening and support a great cause!

Everyone arrived at 7.30pm, all looking absolutely amazing in their masks!

Sonja from Mary Kay Cosmetics was on hand to do some touch ups on the ladies make up before guests had their pictures taken by Carlisle Living for their social pages!

Keep your eyes out in next months issue for pictures of the evening and keep a look out for our “best dressed” winner on the evening Mrs Barbara Langdon who looked absolutely amazing in a full length purple gown with mask to match!

There was an amazing raffle on the night with prizes such as a £100 Brougham Hall Foods hamper, free tickets to South Lakes Zoo, stunning jewellery courtesy of Jennie Ferguson Designs, a photography package courtesy of Pink Tulip Photography, tickets to Carlisle Races and many more.

The night finished at midnight, though many of us wanted to carry on dancing we sadly had to go home….time to count up how much money we had raised!

Although the total is not yet finalised, it is looking very promising that we have collected into the hundreds of pounds for Beauty with a Purpose!

It’s a great feeling to know that all of the hard work paid off in the end, and to know that so many turned up to support such a great cause on the evening!

I’d just like to say the biggest thank you to everyone who bought tickets and/or raffle tickets for the event; it couldn’t have been such a success without you.

A special thank you to all who donated raffle prizes for the raffle, Sarah Massey for being such an amazing help organising the event, Patrick Farrell for being such an amazing raffle ticket seller, Jennie Ferguson for her lovely speech, my Mum and Dad for putting up with me and helping me all along the way, and finally all of my friends and family who gave me words of support when I was worried the event was going to be a failure, for it is those words which meant the most and kept me going…and look where it got us!!

And finally this week…

Things I’m Loving: Carrot cake from Granny Dowbekin’s of Pooley Bridge near Lake Ullswater…delicious, light and fluffy with a hint of banana – and you can call it one of your 5 a day…if it’s got vegetables in it it’s good for you right?! You can even sit and eat it in their beautiful gardens looking out over the river!

Things I’m Hating: The fact that we’re still struggling to get above 12 degrees Celsius! It’s the middle of May – come on Mr Weather man, send us some sunshine!!!

See you all next week x
